尚、Facebook には短歌日記として投稿しました。

11月も末となり、愈々野生の獣も冬眠の季節となりましたが、当地は相変わらず市中町中に出没する熊情報の警報や話題に事欠きません。熊は冬眠する動物と聞いていましたが、人里に出没するようになってからか、冬眠しない熊も存在するらしいという話を聞いています。

冬になったら、熊出没の脅威もなくなるかと高をくくっていましたが、油断は禁物のようです。町中には数人編成の各人が大きな秋田犬を連れた熊パトロール隊も歩いているようです。心強いかぎりで感謝の念に堪えません。熊は早朝や夕暮れ、逢魔が時に多く出るらしく、したがいまして、私も朝の散歩をやめざるをえず、歩くなら日中ということにしました。世界でまだ争い事が絶えず、地球の温暖化と地盤のゆるみ、天災多発、野生の獣が人里に出没等々、よもやこんな世の中になるとは夢にも思っていなかったなあとつらつら思いつつ、歩いていました。

As November draws to a close, wild creatures enter their season of hibernation, yet our town remains filled with reports and warnings of bear sightings. I had always heard that bears hibernate, but it seems some no longer do—perhaps since they began venturing into populated areas.

I had assumed, rather naively, that the threat of bear encounters would fade once winter arrived. However, it appears that complacency would be unwise. Bear-patrol teams—several people each, accompanied by large Akita dogs—are said to be walking through town. Their presence is reassuring, and I cannot help but feel grateful.

Bears are believed to appear most often at dawn, dusk, and twilight. As a result, I have reluctantly given up my early-morning walks and now venture out only during daylight. As I walked today, I found myself reflecting: never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the world would become like this—conflicts still raging across the globe, global warming and weakened ground, frequent natural disasters, wild animals straying into human settlements, and so on.
