―短歌日記：Tanka Diary―Oct. 3rd, 2025

相変わらず、お天気が不安定な毎日が続いています。
今日は、幸いなことに晴天に恵まれ、私は朝walking をすることができました。今朝は近場の山の方に行くことにしました。いえ、山といってもそこに通っている道を歩くだけです。
道沿いに畠もあります。
2kmほど歩くと２０～３０軒ほどの家々がある集落があります。そこを抜けたあたりに私が好きな散歩コースがあるのですが、近年の熊出没騒動で、最近、私はほとんど山道は通らなくなりました。もちろん、そこも熊出没注意地域です。が、今朝はお天気もいいし入ろうかと思いました。その入り口の側には天神様の鳥居があります。一礼後、私はいつものようにぶらりと辺りを見回しながら２，３歩足を踏み入れました。
……あっ！何だろう！……
30mほど先をさっと道を横切って草むらに消えた動物を目撃しました。しっぽが長い大きめの犬のように見えました。
……🐻熊か！……
熊にしてはしっぽが長い。が、野生動物にちがいない。野犬はこの辺りにはいない筈だ。なんだろう？と思いつつ、背中に嫌な気配を感じ、私は尻込みし、踵を返していました。
私は考えました。おそらくタヌキかハクビシンだろう。熊ほどは危険ではないかもしれないが、もうその辺りには行けないかもしれない……山の中に棲んでいる獣、場合によったら人間を攻撃するかもしれない野生の気配に、人間である自分との違い相容れない隔絶したものを感じつつ、私は帰路につきました。
🐾タヌキやハクビシンにびくつくなんて…と思われるかもしれませんが、山道の野生の気配はやはり怖いものです。
As usual, the weather
has been unsettled here.
Today, I was fortunate to be blessed with clear skies, which allowed me to go
for a morning walk. This morning, I decided to head toward a nearby mountain.
Well, actually, I call it a mountain, but in fact I just walk along the path
leading to it.
There are also fields along the way.
After walking about 2 km, I went through a village with about 20–30 houses. Just past that lies my favorite walking route, but due to recent bear sightings, I rarely take the mountain path these days. Of course, the area is also a bear warning area. However, since the weather was fine this morning, I thought I might step in. By the entrance, a Torii gate of Tenjin-Shrine stands. After bowing, I took a few steps, looking around as usual.
...Ah! What is that?! ...
About 30 meters ahead, I saw an animal swiftly cross the road and disappear
into the grass. It looked like a large dog with a long tail.
...A bear?!...
Its tail was too long for a bear. Still, it must have been a wild animal. There
are no wild dogs around here. What could it be? I wondered, while feeling an
ominous presence behind me. Hesitating, I turned back.
I thought it was
probably a raccoon dog or a masked palm civet. It might not be as dangerous as
a bear, but still, I may never be able to go that way again...
Sensing the presence of a wild creature living in the mountains—something that
might even attack humans—I felt a sense of isolation, as if cut off from my
human self. With that feeling, I headed home.
🐾 You might think it silly to be wary of raccoon dogs or masked palm civets… but when you sense the presence of wild creatures on a mountain path, your human instincts don’t stay quiet.
