My Favorite Tanka----Tatsuko Hime of Lake Tazawa: 田沢湖の辰子姫

永遠の美を追求した秋田県田沢湖の守り神の龍である辰子姫を詠いました。

This tanka is on the legend of Tatsuko in Tazawa, Akita Pref, who sought eternal beauty. As a result, she was transformed into the Dragon that guards Lake Tazawa.

辰子潟おもひ深きの奇(く)し乙女そこひにしづみ凍つること無し

Lake Tazawa

has never frozen

because

the ethereal girl loving beauty

deeply sinks to the utmost

秋深し末枯れ葉はらり池の面に水際さはぎて白鷺は翔（た）つ
