水霊は涼風よぶかぎらぎらと緑光(て)る樹々にはか爽やぐ
the water spirit
calling for a cool breeze--
trees’ leaves
with the glistening sun
suddenly sway

Mirror of Truth --
see me as I am
in the limpid water
Botsumeki Spring
where the spirit returns

in the blazing sun--
my mind is out of breath
I think of
Botsumeki Spring
like a bell ringing

with a blessing --
is it a miraculous spring
given by God?
in the deep heart of Mt. Yashio

dragging
my torn and tattered
heart
I gently open
a door in the morning
hoping for a nice breeze

日輪はなべて差しきて針槐の房のかがやき谷をうるほす
sunrays
shining on the earth
equally--
black locust flowers cast
peace over the valley
花の幾ふさ風にゆれ針槐の甘き香みつる水無月は立つ
June starts
with bunches of flowers
swaying in the wind
and the sweet fragrance of
black locust flowers
針槐 君に届くかこの香り我らが痛みもいささかなりと
black locust flowers…
will this scent ever
reach you?

what too of our pains?
